Berwins Salon North
Voted by GQ magazine as one of the ‘Top 100 Things to do in the World’, Berwins Salon North offers the most stimulating ideas in art, science and psychology, designed to change your life for the better. The format of each evening is three expert speakers who each deliver TED-style talks on their chosen theme, with 30 minutes to wow the audience with their subject, interspersed with intervals to allow for audience interaction and debate (and a well-crafted G&T!) Informal yet inspirational these events are always great fun. They do sell out though – so don’t delay!
CARING - Thursday 9 March 2017
Star of science on screen, Dr Adam Rutherford will take us on a tour of the landscape of genetics, exploring the collective memory of the human race. Sarah Corbett, founder of the Craftivist Collective, will tell us how and why we might need our creative and craft skills in the future and how we go about developing them. Prof. Stephen Joseph will share research from his new book ‘Authentic’, a fresh and compelling perspective on the psychology of authenticism, proving it is this that leads us all to true happiness. Listen up!
DARING - Thursday 27 April 2017
Transhumanism is a subject that divides many; Prof. Steve Fuller will be on hand to explore the big question - can we really afford to live forever? Raoul Martinez will reveal that we are far less free than we like to think and that freedom is something we can create together; in fact our very survival may depend on us doing so. Musician Dave Randall (who has worked with the likes of Sinead O'Connor and Dido) will look at how throughout the ages, music has been used to unsettle the most fundamental political and social conventions – and to prop up the status-quo!
All events take place at the Crown Hotel, Harrogate at 7.30pm. Tickets £18. Book both events for just £30.
